Marshal Turenne is one of the Great Captains of military history. The grandson of William the Orange, he was trained in the art of war by his uncle, Maurice of Nassau, before entering the service of the king of France. He rose to be possible the greatest of Louis XIV's marshals, commanding in the later part of the Thrity Years War, the civil wars of the Fronds, and many campaigns against the Spanish, Imperialists and Dutch.
