Graf & Grislawski A Pair of Aces
Graf & Grislawski A Pair of Aces

Here is the complete story of Hermann Graf and Alfred Grislawski, two of the most skilful and colourful Luftwaffe fighter pilots during WWII. This book describes the interwoven fates of these two Luftwaffe fighter aces on the Eastern Front 1941-1943 and 1944-45. Just as in “Black Cross Red Star”, well-known aviation historian Christer Bergström covers the air war from both sides. Here however, Bergström and co-author Vlad Antipov go much deeper into individual personalities. This book was written in cooperation with Mr Alfred Grislawski, with profile artist Claes Sundin contributing 26 unique profiles of aircraft flown by the two aces. There are more than 300 photographs, most of which have never previously been published, many of which are from either Traditionsgemeinschaft JG 52 or from Herr Grislawski’s personal photo album.

Hermann Graf spent many years inside Soviet captivity. Much has been said and written about Graf’s alleged cooperation with the Soviets. Here this is analysed in detail.

Graf and Grislawski served with JG 51, JG 52, JG 50, JG 1, JG 11, and JG 53 on the Western Front, in the Balkans, on the Eastern Front, in the Reichsverteidigung, and over Normandy from 1939 to 1945.

Through a scrupulous research into archives in many countries it has been possible to identify several pilots who were shot down by - or who shot down - Graf or Grislawski.

The book will once and for all provide answers to the questions:

- Was Hermann Graf identical with the "Major von Graff" who, according to Pierre Clostermann, was shot down by a Free French fighter pilot in July 1943?
- Did Hermann Graf really cooperate with the Soviets in captivity? (We present a totally unique material that we have found hidden in Russian archives - Hermann Graf's extensive POW dossier).
- Impeccably researched biographies of two leading Luftwaffe fighter aces
- Includes the very latest research from archives in Russia
- Hundreds of previously unpublished b/w photos
- Full colour aircraft profiles
