Bolo Whistler TheLlife of General Sir Lashmer Whistler
Whistler survived the trenches to become one of Britain’s most able fighting commanders of the Second World War. Commanding a battalion of the Royal Sussex at Dunkirk, a brigade of the 7th Armoured Division – the "Desert Rats" – in North Africa and Italy, and the 3rd Division in Normandy from 1944 until the end of the war, he also held important posts in India and West Africa after hostilities and became General Officer Commanding Western Command. In all his appointments he proved outstanding as a leader of men, military tactician and administrator. A fascinating biography.
