Prepare to Move: With the 6th Armoured Division in Africa and Italy
This book describes the birth of the First Army for the invasion of North Africa, one of the best kept secrets of the war. It gives details of the planning of"Operation Torch", and the invasion by Blade Force. It describes the inferior equipment in the early days, the shortage of manpower and air cover, and the appalling weather conditions, detailed descriptions of the many battles, and the link up with the Eighth Army and the end in Tunisia.
In Italy the four battles on the Gustav Line at Monte Cassino are described, and the drive northwards to the Gothic Line, when the weather and manpower put paid to any full scale operations. It culminates in the final battle to the river Po and victory.
