Sea Eagles Luftwaffe Anti-Shipping Units Volume 1 1939-1941
This is the first part of a study of the maritime, and anti-shipping operations conducted by the Luftwaffe over the English Channel, North Sea, the Far North and Baltic, the Eastern Front and the Mediterranean. The Luftwaffe committed a wide variety of aircraft to operations which could range from coastal reconnaissance to U-boat liaison. The aircraft featured in the book include types as different as short-range float planes and large bombers. These include the Arado Ar 196A, Dornier Do 24, Blohm und Voss BV 138, Heinkel He 115, Junkers Ju 88 and the four engined Fw 200 Condors, He 177 and Do 217, and many others. The book also examines the weaponry used by German bomber units operating in a maritime role such as the Rheinstahl PC 1400 X, 'Fritz X' radio-guided bomb and the Henschel Hs 293 rocket-driven remotely-controlled 'stand-off' missile as used against destroyers in the Mediterranean.
