JG 54 Jagdgeschwader 54 Grunherz Aces of the Eastern Front
This is the story of one of the top scoring Jagdgeschwader of the Luftwaffe, and a study of one of the Luftwaffe's most illustrious fighter units, many of its leaders having fought in the Spanish Civil War. The book includes details of the Groups' action in the Battle of Britain, the Balkans, & on the Eastern Front. Equipped with ME109, FW190 & the ME262, by the end of WWII the unit had a tally of over 9,000 enemy aircraft. It was known as the Green Hearts Wing, and it was the second highest scoring wing of all time, JG 52 being the highest. JG 54 was known for its non-standard camouflage schemes. For example, Bf-109F-4's on the Leningrad front 1941-2 were painted in black-green/dark-green splinter finish with yellow under cowling and under the wing tips.
