Armata Romana In Al Doilea Razboi Mondial - Romanian Army in World War II
Written in both Romanian & English, this 216 page volume lays claim to being the first history of Romania's involvement in World War II told through the modern medium of photographs, sketches, and words. In the inter-war years Romanians adopted the appeasement policies of the UK and France. But with the dismemberment of Czechoslovakia, and the fall of France in 1940, it was clear that the Soviet Union's seizing of parts of Romania could not be resisted. The Romanians under Antonescu, joined forces with the Third Reich with the sole ultimate aim of recovering their lost territory. In 1944 under the threat again of invasion by the Red Army of the USSR, and the weakening military power of Germany, Romania quickly established a new leadership, breaking links with Germany, and joining the Allies. In the conferences of the aftermath of the war Romania was treated as a defeated country, and Stalinism was to reign for the next few decades. The authors' hope was that such an album would give pause for thought in the context of the collapse of the iron curtain. Packed with b/w photographs this album also contains military maps and charts, colour images of medals, and colour sketches of war artists.
