The Last Year of the Kriegsmarine May 1944 - May 1945

 

As far as the Germany Navy was concerned, Hitler began the war five years too early and by mid-1944 deficiencies in equipment and strategic morale where painfully apparent. Nevertheless the Kriegsmarine entered the final year of the conflict with new weapons and new hopes. This is the first study of those last 12 months as the Germans tried to break the deadlock but were unable to produce in time the U-boat they had designed that might have altered the balance of naval power.
