A fictional account of a US infantry soldier from Normandy August 1944 to Germany May 1945. He experiences his first battle, first killing, first death of a comrade. At the end of the war, having found it difficult to become a fighting man, he finds it diffult to stop being one. Loomis's first book, tells the story of war in terms of the feelings of the individual soldier.
