British and Indian Armies in the East Indies, 1685-1935
A comprehensive history of the role of the British and Indian Armies in Malaya, Singapore and the East Indies Archipelago & their campaigns in the Spice Islands, Java & Naning amongst others. It traces development of the Penang Garrison, & Sarawak Local Forces as well as the founding of Singapore by Sir T Stamford Raffles in 1819, the building of it's defences & the Singapore Mutiny of 1915. Lists of casualties are given for these campaigns, and a medal roll is included covering the issue of the India General Service Medal 1854-1895 with the clasp 'Perak'. Further chapters include the formation of the Singapore Volunteer Force in 1854, the events of February 1915 when the 5th Light Infantry, a unit of the Indian army mutinied at Singapore, and the setting of the Empire's sun on British military soirees at Sir Stamford Raffles famous 'Raffles Hotel'.
