Reprint of the rare title first published by Munin Verlag in 1986. This book covers the SS-Fallschirmjäger bataillons 600 (previously 500) and their operations during WW2, including the part they played in the occupation of Budapest in 1944 and their bitter fighting against the Soviet forces on the Oder during 1945. In this book the last commander of the SS-parachutebataillon 600 (before 500) "Sturmbannführer" (Major) Siegfried Milius tells the story of this oustanding parachutebataillon of the "Waffen-SS". It was founded in 1943 and consisted of about 1,000 volunteers. The bataillon was put in to action during the last years of war in the Balkans.
The unit became famous through the daring attempt to smash the leadership of the Jugoslawian communist partisans around Tito in a commando action.("Operation Rösselsprung"). The SS-parachutebataillon also played a very important role in the occupation of Budapest by the Wehrmacht in the "Case Margarethe" in spring 1944.
