Scorched Earth The Russian-German War 1943-1944
Volume 1 (Hitler Moves East) ended with Stalingrad but many have agured that the key battle of the Eastern front was not Stalingrad but Kursk. This battle of the Kursk salient - Operation Citadel - forms the central part of the book. Very rare US 1st edition. A detailed history of operations on the Eastern Front told from the German perspective. Beginning with the battle of Kursk in July 1943, Carell traverses the vast expanse of the Russian War, from the siege of Leningrad and the fierce battles of the norther front, to the fourth battle of Kharkov, and the evacuation of the Crimea, a withdrawal forbidden by Hitler. The book ends in June of 1944 when the Soviet Armies reach the East Prussian frontier. With colour and b&w photographs, situation and campaign maps, complete index, and comprehensive bibliography, add to this impressive account.
There is some slight wear to the original dust jacket (price corner uncut) which has been covered with a clear protective film (stuck down type); overall it is still in very good condition. Inside, the first page has a named book plate and there is a fair degree of foxing visible on the end pages when closed.
