The Jacobite Army In England 1745: The Final Campaign
There have been many accounts of the English campaign of November/December 1745 either as part of a general survey of the Rebellion of 1745 or, in a few cases. with the specific object of illuminating the campaign itself, but all of the traditional accounts make use of a limited and narrow range of sources and there is little attempt to discriminate between the reliability of one version and another. Much work has been done in recent years on detailed aspects of the '45 ire England and this modern research has not as yet been incorporated in a comprehensive narrative account. This new book incorporates the new work and directs attention to those aspects of the campaign that have been traditionally neglected, such as the French factor and the movements of Marshall Wade. The campaign of the Jacobite army in England in 1745 was the last time the dynastic issue was contested by force of arms and was the final occasion that a military campaign was fought on English soil, the skirmish at Clifton on 18th December 1745 producing the last casualties in battle in England itself.
