The Old Breed: History of the 1st Marine Division in WW2
Originally published in 1949 by the infantry Journal Press, the 01d Breed is considered one of the finest division histories ever produced for an American unit. Comprehensive in its coverage, the history traces the First Marine Division from its activation in February 1941 through training in the U.S. to initial combat on Guadalcanal. After a lengthy account of the savage fighting on Guadalcanal, the book covers Cape Gloucester,N ew Britain, Peleliu, Okinawa and finally duty in North China. In addition to the combat narrative, The Old Breed is filled with other important USMC material. There is an extensive section on combat art done by official artists who served with the First Marine Division. ,Also included are the citations of the Medal of Honor winners, command organization at various times during WWII, unit citations and the Honor Roll of First Marine Division men killed in World War 2.
