The Filthy Thirteen: From The Dustbowl to Hitler's Eagle Nest - The 101st Airborne's Most Legendary Squad of Combat Paratroopers
Just prior to the invasion of Normandy, a Stars & Stripes photographer took a legendary photo of two US paratroopers with heads shaved into Mohawks, applying war paint. These two men (Clarence Ware & Charles Plaudo) were members of the self-styled "Filthy Thitreen" squad from the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment. This is the story of this squad of men from Normandy to the end of the war, told by another former member & author - Jake McNiece.
