The first account is by Franz Zieres who narrates his experiences as commandant of Mauthausen. The second is by Charles-Heinz Pilarski, a soldier in the German army who was court-marshalled and imprisoned in the camp. These memoirs, along with photographs taken upon the liberation of the camp, are a vivid record of the Final Solution.
