Deadlock before Moscow: Army Group Center 1942/1943

Eyewitness accounts and war diaries are used to describe the battles which Army Group Center fought in the bitter cold without sufficient winter clothing. Truck and tank engines froze again and again, their bread glistening with frost. Stalin threw three shock armies against Army Group Center. The Germans held out in a few fixed positions against the onslaught. Some of the battles which resulted were Velish and Toropez, Demidov and Vitebsk, Novosokolniki and Velikie Luki.
