Under the St. Andrew's Cross: Russian & Cossack Volunteers in the German Army 1941-1945
The history of Russian & Cossack volunteers from first person accounts. Written by English author Peter J. Huxley-Blythe with a forward by Noted author, Count Nikolai Tolstoy. This is an excellent, concise study. This is one of the better descriptions of the Cossack volunteers and their service in the German Army fighting against Stalin. It also covers a very little known formations of Russian volunteers who fought on the northern sector of the Russian front. An excellent reference source which includes numerous color illustrations.
The English author interviewed many of these Russian and Cossack volunteers (sometimes traveling to far off parts of the world where these officers and men had sought sanctuary in the late 1940's and early 1950's). The work was published in limited numbers in the late 1950's. Now FULLY EXPANDED with additional material and photographs, Dr. Huxley-Blythe has covered the complete history of the special commando formation - Sonderverband R (Sonder Division R), which operated in the region of Army Group North and was stationed for most of its existence in the northern town of Pskov. In addition, the divisions of the Cossack Cavalry Corps, as well as other Russian units are covered.
