Greece and Crete, 1941
While the campaign in Greece and the battle for Crete resulted in military failure for the allies, the skill and courage of the British, New Zealand and Greek forces staved off disaster in Greece and forced the Germans to pay a heavy price for their conquest of Crete. The two campaigns are reviewed here in HMSO's Short Military History Series on the Second World War in relation to the trend of the war during those momentous months. The conclusion: that the sacrifices and disappointments in Greece and Crete were not in vain.
