Heaven and Hell: The War Diary of a German Paratrooper
A personal book from a German soldier who served in Poland, Holland and Narvik, Crete, Russia, Sicily and Southern Italy, Normandy and Holland/Lower Rhine, where he was captured by the 6th Airborne Division. An excellent book, Poppel served in most of the theatres (not Cassino though) that the German Paras were used, and his views on the allied soldiers, tactics and weapons make a different viewpoint. It gives a great taste of what it must have been like for a soldier in one of the newest arms of modern warfare.
