The Lees Knowles lectures 1979. The author tells the story of the Tank and its development by General Swinton and the Royal Navy under Winston Churchill. He goes on to look at the period between Cambrai in 1917 when tanks were first used in decisive numbers to 1939. The final chapter looks at the dramatic use of Tanks by Generals Guderian, Rommel and Patton.
