The author is a Hero of the Soviet Union, the USSR's highest designation & was decorated for his role in the capture of Vienna in 1945. He fought in a Brigade that fought in the Ukraine, Romania, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Austria & Manchuria (against the Japanese in August 1945).
